Why dental implants are the best solution to a missing tooth
Unlike dentures, dental implants are a fixed and permanent solution. Implants are surgically placed into your jawbone and left to fuse with it for a period of around 6 months. This process is known as ossiointergration; as dental implants are made from titanium, a highly biocompatible material, the rejection rate is exceedingly low. Once the implant is ready, an aesthetic element will be placed over the top of the implant, which will be either a bridge or a crown. Here at Lander Dentistry we can offer our patients aesthetic and custom-made same-day CEREC crowns.
Dental implants and jawbone preservation
One of the lesser well-known benefits of dental implants is their ability to preserve the jawbone. When you have a missing tooth, your jawbone suffers as a result; as it is not receiving stimulation from actions such as eating, it cannot support itself and begins to recede or shrink. Dental implants restore support to the jawbone because they are inserted directly into it which means tissues can begin to grow around the implant and effectively ‘trick’ the jawbone into thinking there is a real tooth and tooth root there.
Aesthetic and function
As mentioned above, Lander can offer CEREC™ porcelain crowns that are custom made for your smile. Your dentist will look at your facial features, tooth structure, bite and eye and hair colour in order to craft the best possible and natural-looking crown for your smile. A dental implant will restore function to 100%, allowing you to chew, smile and kiss with confidence and without the worry of your new restoration falling out or moving as a set of dentures are prone to.
