The colder months are closing in on us and it will soon be time to start making next year’s summer plans. Too early, we hear you say. Well, when it comes to certain dental treatments, starting during the winter months will ensure your teeth look great in time for those long summer days and nights.
Dental implants treatment involves a couple of stages, the first being the placement of the implant and the second, the placement of the restoration (the tooth-like part of the implant). Between these two stages, a period of six months is needed, during which the patient’s implant will settle into the jawbone tissues as the body acclimatises to its presence. For this reason, one of the best times to have dental implants is during the winter, when we tend to hibernate and keep cosy near the fire rather than being outdoors and in the thick of events and special occasions.
Treating moderate to severe orthodontic issues can take time – months and even years! With this in mind, you might want to plan your treatment so that you can have your braces off in time for summertime for all those beach photos. Mild to moderate crowding and spacing issues can be treated in as little as six months – speak to your orthodontist here at Lander during your consultation appointment to find out when you would need to start treatment in order to have a fantastic smile in time for summer.
Here at the practice, patients can actually see what their smile will look like before treatment even begins, thanks to our sophisticated system. Our iTero machine can project an image of the finished result and show patients the different movements their smile will go through during the treatment period.
Regular hygienist appointments
A lot can happen to your teeth in a relatively short period of time. Failing to attend hygienist appointments 2 or 3 times a year can make a huge difference to how your teeth look a year from now. During a hygienist appointment, your hygienist can give your teeth a scale and polish treatment, removing plaque and tartar that can leave tenacious and unsightly staining. Lifestyle factors like smoking and excessive consumption of alcohol can speed up the development of staining and leave you with discoloured teeth within a matter of months.
